Fire in Poland damages historic home under renovation; traffic snarled

POLAND — A fire at 323 S. Main St. damaged an historic home this afternoon, killing two dogs.

The 1820s-era home had been undergoing a two-year restoration.

The owners were not home when the blaze broke out. A detached garage was not affected. A passerby discovered the fire.

Firefighters are on the scene from Struthers, Western Reserve Fire District, Boardman, Springfield and Poland.

Traffic is snarled on state Route 170 and also backed up as drivers leave Interstate 680 to head to Poland.
