The musical ran for two years and 200 performances from 1990 to 1991 at the former Uptown Theater in Youngstown — one of the longest runs in the city’s history.
“Pump Boys” takes place in Grand Ol Opry country, at the Double Cupp diner, and the neighboring gas station.
The workers at both places put together an evening of country and western songs, performing on anything at hand, including guitars, piano, bass, banjo, harmonica, accordion, hubcaps and even kitchen utensils.
