Thursday is deadline to purchase dog licenses

Thursday is the deadline for Mahoning County residents to license dogs for 2013 at the regular rate of $15 or to buy kennel licenses for $75, said county Auditor Michael V. Sciortino.

After that, the rates double, and court citations may be issued for noncompliance. Ohio law requires licenses for all dogs older than 3 months.

Sciortino extended the deadline one month to Thursday to encourage license purchases and help inaugurate the first year of online licensing.

The licenses may be purchased online, and payment made by eCheck, through www.mahoningcountyauditor.org. They also may be purchased at the county auditor’s office, 120 Market St.; or dog pound, 589 Industrial Road; or at certain auto-licensing bureaus and retail stores.

Online licensing ends at midnight Thursday. More than 2,000 licenses have been sold online this year.
