Hearing set today for Ohio school student charged in Chardon shooting
CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A teenager suspected of killing three students in an Ohio high school cafeteria a year ago is due back in court today.
The appearance by 18-year-old shooting suspect T.J. Lane comes one day before the one-year anniversary of the deadly shootings at Chardon High School, east of Cleveland.
Lane’s attorney Ian Friedman said on Feb. 15 that negotiations were under way for a possible plea deal, and if a plea occurs it could happen as early as Tuesday’s hearing in a Geauga County courtroom.
Lane is charged with fatally shooting the three students and injuring others.
A judge has ordered psychiatric testing for Lane and attorneys for both sides want the testing to determine if he is competent to stand trial.
