Dems to meet

BOARDMAN

Mahoning County Democratic Party central and executive committees meet at 5:30 p.m. today to consider election endorsements and amendments to the party’s constitution.

The committees will meet in St. Luke Church Hall, 5235 South Ave., to consider issuing endorsements in the May 7 Democratic primary elections for Youngstown mayor and at-large seats on Struthers City Council.

Committee members also will consider endorsing the proposed Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom amendment to the Ohio Constitution that will appear on the Nov. 5 general- election ballot.

In addition, members of the two committees will vote to ratify a number of changes to the party’s constitution. Atty. David Betras is party chairman.

Write-in candidate

WARREN

Amanda Teutch of 1106 Washington Ave., Girard, has filed as a write-in candidate for Girard treasurer. She will be a candidate in the May 7 primary as a Democrat.

She’s the only person to file by Monday’s deadline as a write-in for any elected office in Mahoning or Trumbull counties.

No name will appear on the ballot for Girard treasurer in May because the Trumbull County Board of Elections ruled last week that Mark P. Zuppo Sr. of Chippewa Court, also a Democrat, did not have enough valid signatures on his nominating petitions to be certified for the ballot.

He was the only person who had filed to run at the time.

Zuppo said later he will run as an independent in the November general election.
