A competency hearing for accused Chardon High School shooter Thomas M. Lane III is scheduled to take place today immediately after a closed-door attorney conference.

Defense attorneys Ian Friedman, Anne Walton and Mark DeVan asked Geauga County Common Pleas Judge David L. Fuhry to have the 18-year-old Lane, also known as T.J., examined by the court’s psychiatric clinic.

Prosecutors did not object to the request, and the judge ruled Lane should be examined at the Psycho-Diagnostic Clinic of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas in Akron.

Meanwhile, Assistant County Prosecutor Nicholas Burling filed his own recent motion asking the judge to order Dr. Philip Resnick to provide information obtained during his April competency evaluation.
