3 Beaver Local wrestlers advance to state

Three Beaver Local wrestlers have earned trips to next week’s state tournament in Columbus.

Daniel Hasson, Joshua Henderson and Jason Keyes advanced after Saturday’s Division II district competition at Heath High School.

In the 138-pound division, Hasson finished second after losing 12-5 decision to Claymont’s Drew Avery in the championship match. In the semifinals, Hasson won an 8-6 decision over Dover’s Isaac Hammonds.

In the 113-pound division, Joshua Henderson finished runner-up to Claymont’s Dustin Warner. In the semifinals, Henderson pinned Whitehall-Yearling’s Ana Abduljelil in 3:36.

In the 120-pound division, Jason Keyes finished in fourth place, losing a 15-7 major decision to Meadowbrook’s Jerad Patterson in the third-place match. In the consolation semifinal, Keyes won a 6-4 decision over Buckeye Valley’s Chance Haynes.

The Beavers’ Daniel Lattanzio dropped two matches — an 11-3 major decision to Big Walnut’s Alec Eisnnicher and a 3-1 decision to Steubenville’s Mark Cole.

Division III

GARFIELD HEIGHTS

Crestview’s Matt Hardenbrook earned a trip to the state wrestling tournament with a third-place finish at the Div. III district tournament at Garfield Heights High.

In the 170-pound winner’s bracket semifinals, Hardenbrook was disqualified against Waynedale’s Brenden Stanley. The Crestview senior rebounded with a 14-1 major decision victory against Lutheran West’s Andrew Liese.

In the third-place match, Hardenbrook captured a 9-5 decision over Northwestern’s Joey Meek.

Girard’s Zane Chase, Jackson-Milton’s Mitch Tikkanen and United’s Charlie Smith dropped two matches in the second day of competition.

In the 120-pound winner’s bracket semifinals, Chase lost a 22-9 major decision to Beachwood’s Sammy Gross. Chase also lost an 11-3 major decision to Keystone’s Dillon Stiner.

In the 106-pound division winner’s bracket semifinals, Jackson-Milton’s Mitch Tikkanen dropped a 15-7 major decision to Black River’s Sebastian Vidlika. He then lost a 2-0 decision to Mapleton’s John Smith.

In the heavyweight division, Loudonville’s Austin Cary defeated Smith with a fall at 5:26. In the loser’s bracket, Northwestern’s Matt Hunter defeated Smith with a fall at 2:34.
