About Scrabble: Scrabble, originally called Lexiko then Criss-Crosswords, was invented by an unemployed architect, Alfred Mosher Butts, in 1938. Entrepreneur James Brunot bought the rights in 1948 and refined the rules and design of the game, renaming it Scrabble. The game gained slow but steady popularity.
