Local high schools host Ohio state speech and debate competition next week

The Ohio High School Speech League’s State Speech and Debate Tournament takes place in the Youngstown District on Thursday through Saturday.

Boardman High School and Canfield High School are co-hosting the event.

Registration and coaches’ meetings begin Thursday at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave. The opening assembly for all student qualifiers, coaches and judges takes place at Boardman High School’s Performing Arts Center at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Three new coaches from the state will also be inducted into the state Hall of Fame at that assembly. Competition begins Friday evening at both Boardman and Canfield high schools and continue through Saturday evening. The final rounds and awards ceremony will take at Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
