SMASH concert Sat. to feature local bands

NEWTON FALLS

The traffic-safety initiative SMASH — Students Making a Safer Highway — will have a concert at the Newton Falls Community Center, 52 E. Quarry St., from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Many local bands will perform, and students from all area high schools have been invited to attend. Donations of $3 will be accepted. Food and beverages will be available.

SMASH, in its second year, is a program involving 15 high schools. Last year, the group created a video shown to all Trumbull County high schools. This year’s project will be announced later.

Drug unit arrests 3 on meth charges

NEW WATERFORD

The Columbiana County Drug Task Force arrested three people on methamphetamine charges Thursday.

The task force executed a search warrant at 3618 Silliman St., where Daniel L. Todd, 34; Heidi L. Todd, 33; and Bradley L. Carpenter, 28, all of the residence, were found and arrested.

Several guns, a suspected meth lab and chemicals to produce meth were located in the house along with suspected meth and heroin, according to a task force press release.

Daniel and Heidi Todd and Carpenter are charged with possession of chemicals to produce meth. Carpenter and Daniel Todd are also charged with unlawful purchase of pseudophedrine products. Further charges are pending as the investigation continues, according to the release.
