Pizza-driver robbery probed in Liberty

Police continue their investigation into the armed robbery of a pizza-delivery driver.

The driver was called to an apartment in the 2600 block of Northview Drive on Feb. 14, but after arriving, the residents told him they had not placed the order. As the driver returned to his car, someone jumped him and struck his head with what he believed was a firearm, a police report shows.

Another robber held a gun to his head, and the robbers stole an undisclosed amount of cash, the victim’s wallet and cellphone, a global-positioning-system and a cup containing change, the report says.

Driver in Warren enters innocent plea

WARREN

A 29-year-old Parkman Road woman was arraigned Wednesday in Warren Municipal Court on two counts of felony aggravated vehicular assault for a single-car crash Nov. 10, 2012.

An innocent plea was entered for Jessica L. May, and she was released after posting $2,500 bond.

May and two girls, age 10 and 7, were treated at St. Joseph Health Center for injuries they suffered in the crash on Parkman Road, less than a block from May’s home.

Police said May was driving erratically and at high speed at the time the car crossed the center line and hit a utility pole, knocking out power.

Injuries to the three were described as “non-incapacitating.” A drug test was given, but the results were not available Thursday.

Purse snatched

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who snatched the purse of an elderly woman in front of Giant Eagle on Elm Road at 1:51 p.m. Feb. 9.

He was accompanied by another white male. They left in a silver Pontiac G6. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mike Currington at 330-841-2660.

Boil order issued

Columbiana

Columbiana’s water superintendent has issued a boil-water order in effect for the Southern Terrace Trailer Park due to a water main break until further notice.

Lou Vega interim recycling leader

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County commissioners appointed Lou Vega, recycling division statistician, as interim county recycling director to replace Mari Wren Petrony, who is resigning as interim director, effective today. The division has been without a permanent director since Jim Petuch retired Dec. 31, ending a 30-year career in litter control and recycling.

Also, Robert E. Bush Jr., county Job and Family Services director, told the commissioners he learned late Wednesday the state will again sponsor a summer youth employment program this year, but he does not yet know the program’s funding level.
