Elderly man's body found on West Side, foul play not suspected

YOUNGSTOWN — Police have identified the body of a man found along Salt Springs Road on the West Side early today, but they are not releasing his name pending notification of family.

A Youngstown police officer on routine patrol at about 8 a.m. noticed a car sitting far off the road along Salt Springs. When the officer went to check the car, he found the body of a 91-year-old man not far from where the car was sitting.

Detective Sgt. Daryl Martin said the man was reported missing from Austintown on Tuesday. He said police do not suspect foul pla.

Martin said police believe the man drove off the road sometime around the time he was reported missing then became disoriented.

He said detectives were able to see where the man walked back and forth along the wooded area before collapsing where he was found.
