Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, will host a drive-through chicken dinner on March 7 from 4 p.m. until sold out. The cost is $7 and includes stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie.

Auxiliary to meet Tuesday

The Sulmona Valley Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday at noon at Johnny’s Restaurant, Market Street. Virginia Matijasic is the hostess and the telephone girls will be calling for reservations. Anyone interested in joining may contact Sandy Redeske at 330-755-5192.

Quilt group meeting

The February meeting of “That Quilt Group I Belong To” will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Fair Park, Canfield. Members will demonstrate the following techniques: tying a quilt, needle turned appliqu , magical hexagons, perfect circles for machine and hand appliqu , and twisted quilting. The Show and Tell theme is “What was I thinking?” and members are asked to bring in quilting projects that include mistakes. “That Quilt Group I Belong To” is open to all interested quilters at all skill levels. Canfield grad earns prestigious title

Bethany Eynon, a 2003 graduate of Canfield High School, is now the University of North Carolina’s Center for Civil Rights 2012-2014 Community Development and Community Inclusion Attorney-Fellow. She graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2012 and previously from Ohio University Honors Tutorial College with degrees in journalism, sociology and women studies. During her law school career, Eynon served as both the Special Trips Coordinator and Director of the Pro Bono Program Board. She has been integral in the Wills Trips to various areas of North Carolina and the South, aiding citizens with a variety of legal issues.

In 2012, Eynon was inducted into the prestigious Carolina Law Davis Society. She and her husband, Jonathan Crawford, live in Chapel Hill, N.C.

St. Patrick’s Day celebration set

The Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host its fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on March 9 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at St. Nicholas Social Hall. The cost is $27.50 per person and will include traditional Irish fare, a cash bar, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and music from the band “Sound Around Town.”

Audubon Society program

Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Plants to Attract Specific Birds,” a program by Eric Barrett from Mahoning County’s Ohio State Extension office. Grant writing workshop offered

The Ohio Environmental Education Fund is offering a free grant writing workshop on March 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Mill Creek Metro-Park Farm in Canfield. The first part of the workshop will give the attendees prospecting tips to help them identify foundations, corporations, and government grant programs, and how to approach different kinds of grant makers. The second part will focus on OEEF grants offered by the state of Ohio. If you would like to increase environmental awareness at your school or organization and help get some funds to do this, send a representative to this workshop.

Canfield church hosts Lenten breakfasts

Canfield Christian Church will be hosting Lenten breakfasts every Wednesday through March 27. The breakfasts will be from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Breakfast is free and donations will be accepted.

MCCTC cosmetology students open salon

Cosmetology students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center have opened The Salon at MCCTC for afternoon hours to the public. Salon hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and now noon to 2 p.m.

The junior and senior cosmetology students will offer haircuts, styling, perms, hair color, manicures and hair removal. All services are performed by students under the supervision of their instructor and prices start at just $5. Wine and beer tasting in Boardman

Team Schein is hosting a wine and beer tasting at Vintage Estates Wine and Beer in Boardman Feb. 24 from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and includes eight tastings. Choose from six wine selections or 12 beers on tap from the Diamond bar, hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment by Ryan Ross. You must be 21 years of age to purchase a ticket and attend the event. In the mood for some Valentine’s laughs? Laugh at other funny valentines, or make your own at the Canfield library during regular hours in February. The library will post them on their teen board. A random participant will win a prize. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

Canfield library hosts Kindle class

Bring your Kindle to the library and the librarians will show you how to download eBooks from the Library’s Digital Catalog on their website on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for specific library to register. For adults.

Making Kids Count benefit dinner

On March 15, Making Kids Count will host its first benefit dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Proceeds from the event will go to the various programs Making Kids Count sponsors.

This event will include dinner, dessert, a cash bar, chance auction and entertainment. Invitations will be mailed in February.
