Bunch, Whitehead capture JV wrestling titles
Jarod Bunch and Paul Whitehead captured titles as the Canfield High School JV squad traveled to Pymatuning High School to compete in the JV EOWL wrestling tournament.
Kirk Bunch was runner-up at heavyweight. Nathan Buttle, Ryan Murphy, David Hofsess and Tom Donadee were third-place finishers for the Cardinals. Matt Orr was fourth at 170.
Tressel to speak at Curbstone HOF banquet
Jim Tressel, former YSU and Ohio State University football coach, will serve as guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet on May 5.
There will be 13 inductees at the event held at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center.
The class includes: Adam Barta (bowling); Richard Canacci (football); Marla Chicase (bowling); Melanie Congemi-Stitt (track & field); Robert Eckenrode (bowling); John “J.C.” Elliott (softball); Jim Ferraro (baseball); Seth Jaffee (basketball); Mike Koranicki (boxing/posthumous); Steve Krivonak (contribution to sports); Jim Leone (racquetball); Dick Marlowe (all-sports award) and Bill Sferra (special award).

Cardinals host softball clinic
The Canfield Lady Cardinals softball team will host a skills and drills tune-up softball clinic March 16 in the Canfield High School gymnasium. Morning sessions for players ages 7-10 will be from 10 a.m. to noon, and afternoon sessions for players 11-14 will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Clinic check-in time will take place 30 minutes prior to the start of the session.
The cost is $20 per player. Make checks payable to Canfield Softball Boosters. Deadline to register is March 8. Registration forms and required medical release forms can be found at www.leaguelineup.com/canfieldsoftballboosters.
Players should bring helmets, gloves, bats and tennis shoes. No spikes allowed. If catchers have their own equipment they are encouraged to bring it.
Skills and Drills Tune up Softball Clinic will provide each player with the tools necessary to take her game to the next level in a challenging and fun-filled atmosphere. Each player will have the opportunity to increase her knowledge of the game and develop proper fundamentals on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, while working with the Lady Cardinals players and coaches.

Ervin “Magic” Dodge Sweeper is March 2
The Ervin “Magic” Dodge Memorial Sweeper is March 2 at noon at Boardman Lanes.
The event is five games across 10 lanes, open to men and women in handicap and scratch divisions. Entry fee is $40 per division. Proceeds benefit the Ervin Dodge Scholarship, which was established in 1999 at YSU.
