Zuppo still planning to run for Girard Treasurer

Mark Zuppo Sr. said he is still planning to run for city treasurer.
Zuppo, of Chippewa Court, said he plans to run as an independent during the general election in November.
The Trumbull County Board of Elections rejected his nominating petitions last week, eliminating him from the Democratic primary.
The board said Zuppo didn’t sign his name on one of the four petitions attesting that he witnessed the signing of all of the names, which eliminated 21 names from a list of 67.
Ohio Law requires 50 valid signatures for an individual to be placed on the ballot for city treasurer.
Currently, John Moliterno is the city’s treasurer and is not seeking re-election and is instead seeking a position as councilman-at-large in November.
Because no other partisan candidate filed for treasurer, there will not be a candidate listed for the position in the primary.
“It’s disappointing that I can’t be on the ballot as a Democrat, but I’m still confident in becoming Girard’s next treasurer,” said Zuppo
According to the Trumbull County Board of elections, independents must have 50 valid signatures turned in by May 6, a day before the party primary. Zuppo said he’s already gathering new signatures and will turn in the petition to run as an independent in the coming weeks.
Zuppo is a former member of the Girard school board and works as a key account manager for Smiths Medical.
