MINERAL RIDGE
Demolition at Weathers- field schools under an Ohio School Facilities Commission grant and local funds totaling $25.4 million is scheduled to begin June 3.
Superintendent Damon Dohar said Wednesday that bids for heating and air conditioning are being advertised. Work on demolition at Seaborn Elementary and the high school is scheduled to start June 3.
Part of Seaborn will be torn down and an addition will be made to the building. Interior work will be done at the high school.
Construction is scheduled to start Sept. 14, and the demolition of most of the middle school should take place in the winter of 2015, Dohar said.
The $25.4 million project is being funded with $17.8 million in OSFC funds, and a $7.5 million local share. An additional $529,139 was added to local funds for construction of a new gymnasium at the high school for junior-high students.
The high school will become a junior high/high school building for grades seven through 12, and Seaborn will become a K-6 building, instead of a K-4 building.
New additions are planned at both buildings.
The middle school is to be razed except for administrative offices and the bus garage.
In other business, the board approved a new 2013-14 school calendar with classes starting Sept. 9 and the last day of school June 11, 2014.
