A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Feb. 11
Trespassing: Police received information someone had trespassed on property in the 6900 block of Poland Center Drive.
Feb. 12
Identity theft: A Four Seasons Trail woman reported a total of $4,781 stolen from three accounts in her name.
Feb. 18
Burglary: Took place in the 8200 block of Cliffview Drive, though police found no signs of forced entry. Two hundred feet of copper piping was removed.
BOARDMAN
Feb. 14
Theft: Tyia R. Patchen, 24, of 205 S. Howard St., Salem, was arrested in Salem and charged with stealing a $48 hair-straightening item from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.
Domestic violence: A 15-year-old Struthers girl was charged with the crime after her grandmother alleged the teen had grabbed her wrist and shoved the accuser backward at the Southern Park Mall.
Arrest: Officers received a report of suspected marijuana emanating from a Tiffany Boulevard motel room, then arrested 19-year-old Mechole L.M. Washington, 24 S. Garland Ave., Youngstown. She was wanted on a felony warrant from Hamilton County, Ohio, charging her with forgery.
Drugs: Travis W. Soltesiz, 27, and Joseph R. Soltesiz, 53, both of 124 Wildwood Drive, Boardman, faced felony charges of trafficking in marijuana when, police said, a search warrant led to the discovery of a total of 770 grams of suspected marijuana. Also, a room in the basement was used to cultivate the drug, a report showed.
Employee theft: The owner of a South Avenue restaurant alleged a server stole about $1,859 from the business between May and December 2012, in part by improperly cashing out customers.
Theft/aggravated menacing: A woman in her mid-20s stole about $13 worth of merchandise from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road, then reportedly got into a friend’s silver Toyota vehicle, threatening the driver with a knife before jumping from the car and fleeing on foot across U.S. Route 224.
Assault/criminal damaging: A woman in a car at an East Western Reserve Road home told police her former boyfriend tossed a bottle of liquid, damaging the vehicle’s front windshield, before pushing her to the ground and demanding she leave the residence.
Breaking and entering: Someone apparently pried open a window to an unoccupied Reserve Court residence. Some copper piping was missing from the basement.
Theft: A West Boulevard woman alleged a family member took a $500 necklace from the accuser’s mother’s home and pawned the item at a Market Street jewelry business.
Feb. 15
Burglary: Someone used a sharp tool to pry open a side door to a home in the 800 block of Westport Drive and steal $2,000.
Theft: Shiraz I. Judeh, 24, was charged with theft. Judeh, of 17895 Whisper Lane, Lake Milton, was accused of taking a $22 eyeliner product from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall and returning it without a receipt.
Theft: A student at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., reported a $60 leather jacket stolen from his locker.
Recovered property: An Austintown man found his $200 cellphone after having reported it stolen at a Boardman-Canfield Road eatery.
Theft: A Poland man at a McClurg Road business reported the theft of a $200 iPhone.
Arrest: Officers responded to an argument on Tod Avenue, where they took into custody 23-year-old Lindsay Stine, 8050 Tod Ave., Boardman. She was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant charging her with one misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property.
Drugs: A traffic stop on Market Street led to a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 23-year-old Ellen C. Paris, 2406 Cooper St., Youngstown, with marijuana possession.
Theft: A man discovered his $400 cellphone missing while at a McClurg Road business.
Harassment: An Argyle Avenue woman said she received up to 30 harassing and threatening calls and text messages after she refused to give the person money.
Theft: A woman at a Doral Drive store noticed her $100 cellphone had been stolen.
Arrest: A loud-noise complaint in the 50 block of Indianola Road led to a citation against 40-year-old David A. Reiner, 59 Indianola, Boardman, charging him with operating a vehicle impaired.
Feb. 16
Theft: A woman reported two pieces of jewelry, 20 prescription pills and a computer disc stolen from her Shields Road apartment.
Menacing: A female customer, unhappy about a recent purchase, reportedly threatened workers of the South Avenue business.
Burglary: To a home in the 3900 block of Shelby Road through a basement window. Stolen were $2,000, a 50-inch TV, an iPad device and a video-game console.
Feb. 17
Arrest: A vehicle check on Glenwood Avenue led to the arrest of Jalil P. Liggens, 24, who listed Youngstown addresses on East Marion Avenue and Oxford Street, and was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.
Attempted fraud: A Boardman- Canfield Road woman told authorities a caller claiming to represent Chase Bank said she needed to make a $600 payment over two months to reduce her interest rate, and that another person came on the line and asked for her Social Security number, supposedly to check her credit score.
Domestic violence: Police booked Deborah Mesnyak, 46, of 594 Forestridge Drive, Boardman, after her former husband alleged Mesnyak had kicked him under the left arm and in the ribs before striking him near the left ear. The confrontation apparently began when the accuser tried to catch his daughter after another person at the residence had pushed her, a report showed.
Fraud: An Oak Grove, Ky., man, formerly of Southern Boulevard, alleged his former wife cashed his unemployment checks without authorization while he was incarcerated, causing him to owe an unemployment agency $2,464.
Domestic violence: Chester J. Leone, 33, of 1837 Oles Ave., Boardman, faced two misdemeanor domestic-violence charges after his girlfriend’s son alleged Leone had thrown a coffee mug, striking his face, and choked the accuser during an argument about Leone’s car. In addition, his girlfriend alleged having been hit, a report showed.
Identity fraud: Youngstown police handed to township authorities 24-year-old Jessica L. Edmonds of Pittsburgh, who was wanted on a felony identity-fraud charge and a misdemeanor count of obstructing official business after her sister, of Shields Road, alleged Edmonds has continually used the accuser’s identity, most recently during a traffic stop in Canfield.
Arrest: A vehicle-registration check in the 4000 block of Market Street resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old Shanetta M. Sly, who listed Youngstown addresses on East Florida and LaClede avenues. Sly was wanted on a felony warrant from Youngstown accusing her of violating a court order.
Feb. 18
Theft: Charges were pending against two juveniles after a pair of flip-flops was stolen from the J.C. Penney store.
Auto theft: A 2008 Dodge Charger was stolen in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court.
Counterfeit: Someone used a fake $10 bill to pay for merchandise at The Avenue, a clothing store at 511 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Breaking and entering: Ten to 12 hand tools, $500 worth of copper piping and five to eight garden tools were removed from a vacant residence in the 700 block of Forestridge Drive.
Theft: A Shields Road man and his girlfriend reported a Sony PlayStation 3 system, 40 Play Station games, an Xbox console, a laptop computer and other property stolen from the residence.
Domestic violence: A Boardman boy, 17, was charged with the crime after his mother alleged he punched her face after having become upset about an inability to find his Social Security card. The accuser suffered a deep cut above her right eye and had blood on her face and neck, a report said.
Theft: Brandon M. O’Neil of 11793 Beard Road, New Springfield, was charged. The 19-year-old O’Neil was accused of stealing a video game and other items from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Feb. 19
Arrest: Officers responded to a suspicious person at a residence in the 4500 block of Grover Drive before charging 29-year-old Paul B. Downing, 258 Hilton Ave., Youngstown, with disorderly conduct. An intoxicated Downing refused several times to cooperate with authorities and caused a scene, they said.
