Matthew C. Williams, 26, of 1834 Mahoning Ave. NW, suffered a stab wound of the neck and forearm early Wednesday from an unknown man he allowed into his apartment.
Williams was in stable condition at a hospital Wednesday morning and spoke to police, said Detective Wayne Mackey.
Williams said he had been having an argument with his girlfriend and he thought it was her knocking on his door, so he opened the door.
A short, dark man about 23 years old asked for help because he had nowhere to go, and Williams allowed him into the apartment, Williams said.
After the man had been in the apartment 10 to 15 minutes, he demanded money, then produced a large knife and stabbed Williams in the arm, Williams said.
The man then taunted Williams, punched him, stabbed him in the neck and threatened to kill him, Williams said.
Williams fled to a bedroom, jumped out a window to get help and later went to a nearby address for help at 2:54 a.m. The two addresses are near Packard Park.
Police found Williams on the living-room floor of the neighbor’s home with a great deal of blood around him, police said.
Williams said the suspect took a cellphone, credit card and $5.
Though Williams said he’d been punched in the face, he had no apparent facial injuries, police said.
