Kids Shine for a Cure benefit scheduled April 27

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road, will be the setting for the second annual Kids Shine for a Cure benefit from noon to 6 p.m. April 27.

The aim of the benefit is to raise $5,000 each for the Autistic Learning Foundation and A Way With Words Foundation and its R.O.C.c.K. (Raising Our Commitment to Cancer Kids) children’s choir.

The event is free to the public, and the following have been scheduled:

• 1 p.m.: A One Mile Matters 1K walk.

• 2 to 4 p.m.: Artist Chris Yambar of Bart Simpson comics will draw and sign autographs of his work for donations.

• 3 p.m.: Nashville recording artists Sarah Turner and Tommy Cole.

• Visits from local K-9 units, police officers, firemen and emergency medical technicians.

• A performance by the R.O.C.c.K. children’s choir.

• Kite-flying contest.

• Face painting.

• Kid-friendly entertain ment.

• Basket and silent auctions.

• Concessions.

Raffle tickets are on sale for $20 each for a chance to win a free three-year lease of a 2013 Chrysler 200. The winner will choose the color of the new car, which comes with GPS, satellite radio, road assistance and leather interior. The winner will be drawn Sept. 8 at Austintown Township Park’s Saving Second Base Softball Tournament. However, if there are not enough tickets sold to benefit the foundations after paying for the car, it becomes a 50-50 raffle instead.
