Couple says mistaken buckeye leaf got them stopped

MEMPHIS, Tenn.

A Texas couple says a Tennessee deputy sheriff pulled them over after mistaking a car decal of the buckeye leaf for a marijuana leaf.

Bonnie and Guido Jonas-Boggioni told The Commercial Appeal that they are laughing about it now, but back on Feb. 4, they were confused when a Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy pulled them over as they were driving on Interstate 40 after coming back from a family member’s funeral in Ohio.

Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni said the deputy asked her why she had a marijuana sticker on the back of her car.

He was referring to her Ohio State Buckeyes sticker, featuring a five-pointed leaf that is different from the seven-pointed marijuana leaf.

She said after explaining the difference to the deputy, they continued their trip.

Belgians hunt boar: No contest, animals win

BRUSSELS

Belgians went on a boar hunt, and at first it looked like no contest: 200 hunters vs. 170 wild boars. Yet in the end, only one boar was slain.

As hunter Jef Schrijvers said after a frustrating day: ‘’The boars won. The hunters lost.”

The northern town of Postel had organized the hunt because an explosive increase in the boar population had damaged farm fields and woods and caused rural traffic problems.

In a coordinated swoop, the hunters sought to drive the boars together so that marksmen in high positions could shoot them, but the plan didn’t work.

Schrijvers told the VRT television network that ‘’the hunt was perfect, safe and correct. Only the result was disappointing.”

He called it a ‘’successful general rehearsal” ahead of similar hunts.

Cayman Islands woman bites intruder, loses tooth

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands

Police in the Cayman Islands say a woman drove off an intruder by biting him.

It cost her a tooth, though.

Police Chief Inspector Robert Scotland says the woman was home alone when she woke up to find a man standing over her bed. Scotland told The Associated Press on Friday that the woman bit the intruder when he put his hand over her mouth.

He then fled.

He said the woman was treated at a hospital and that police still are looking for the intruder.

The incident occurred early Thursday in the northwest part of Grand Cayman.
