Woman found dead in car in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN

A woman was found dead in her car in the parking lot of Save-A-Step, 4226 Mahoning Avenue, at 10:41 a.m. Sunday.

A detective and the Mahoning County coroner’s office investigated, but police do not suspect foul play.

The 30-year-old woman, of North Roanoke Avenue, recently was robbed at her apartment, police said.

Business summit for South Ave. corridor

Councilwoman Janet Tarpley, D-6th, and Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will host a business summit for those along the South Avenue corridor at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Metro Assembly of God, 2530 South Ave.

Several city department heads will be in attendance to participate in the discussion.

3-day vigil planned for fighting famine

People Fighting Famine, a Mahoning Valley grass-roots group working to raise awareness of what it calls the hunger crisis, plans a three-day vigil on the theme “Fighting Global Hunger.

Events will be Thursday through Saturday at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 1105 Elm St., where there will be speakers and displays.

Prayer services and vigils will be on Federal Street downtown.

Classes to address raw-food handling

Grow Youngstown will offer raw-food preparation classes taught by Sam Anderson from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and March 9 at the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.

Anderson will teach the preparation of raw foods using the proper tools and temperature.

At both classes, coupons for $5 off a Grow Youngstown community-supported agriculture (CSA) subscription will be available. The subscription fee must be paid by March 15.
