Student injured in drive-by shooting near YSU today; suspects in custody

YOUNGSTOWN

A Youngstown State University student is in stable condition, and police have suspects in custody after a drive-by shooting just north of campus early this morning.

The university issued a campuswide alert at 6 a.m. today about three hours after the shooting.

According to the alert, YSU police reported that the victim was in a car in the 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. today, when shots were fired into the vehicle.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she is reported to be in stable condition.

Two other individuals in the car were not injured.

Youngstown police report that suspects are in custody.

YSU police report that there is no threat to the campus at this time.

The 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue is located between Wick Avenue and the Westbound Service Road near the university’s cluster of residence halls.
