YOUNGSTOWN

Authorities are investigating a human skull found shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area in the 2000 Block of Vaughn Avenue in the northeast section of the city. A home-owner called police after his dog discovered the skull in the woods off Vaughn. Youngstown detectives, and the Mahoning County Coroner’s office and crime lab were at the scene for about an hour looking for evidence. Other bones were found, but it is not known if they are human, police said. They added that it is likely the skull will yield DNA that could be compared with missing persons.

Board vacancy

WARREN

The Trumbull County Board of Health and Trumbull County Health District are seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the health board. The advisory council requires candidates to fill out a nomination petition, a copy of which can be obtained from the Board of Health office or the health department’s website at www.tcbh.org.

A candidate must be a U.S. citizen and a registered voter living within the boundaries of the county health district. That means residents of Warren, Niles and Girard are not eligible. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, resume and nominating petition to Johnna Ben, Trumbull County Health Department, 176 Chestnut Ave. NE, Warren, OH 44483, by Feb. 26.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile outreach center will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation. The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job- discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission. Election packets

Mercer, Pa.

Petition packets for Republican and Democratic candidates planning on running for local office in the May 21 primary election in Mercer County are now available in the election office at the Mercer County Courthouse, 5 Courthouse. The first day to circulate petitions is Tuesday and the completed petition must be filed at the election office no later than March 12. The courthouse will be closed Monday for Presidents Day.
