Animal processing topic of Feb. 28 workshop

The Eastern Ohio Grazing Council will host two winter-grazing workshops at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 28 in the back conference room of the Carrollton Ponderosa, 1117 Canton Road NW.

At the Feb. 28 workshop, discussion focuses on meat producers who are interested in starting an animal-processing facility. A discussion will be with the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Melissa Reddick, assistant chief of the Division of Meat Inspection, and Brad Maris, meat inspection supervisor of the Northeast district.

The experts will discuss current meat-inspection standards and safety issues, new technologies and the future of meat processing, and the process of starting new meat-processing facilities. They also will offer a question-and-answer session.

The pasture workshops are presented by the Eastern Ohio Grazing Council in cooperation with Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Mahoning, Stark, and Tuscarawas soil and water conservation districts and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
