Boardman senior Ryan Bailey won the 100-yard butterfly by nearly two seconds and broke the school record in the breaststroke as the Spartans broke five school records in Saturday’s Division I district swimming finals at Cleveland State University.

Bailey won the butterfly by nearly two seconds, finishing in 49.32 seconds, compared to 51.16 by Solon sophomore Grant Pinchot. He swam a 57.99 in the 100 breast behind Hudson’s Ross Palazzo (56.43) and Solon’s Patrick Tippen (57.70).

The top two in each event advance to next week’s state meet in Canton. Several others will advance with at-large bids based on statewide times.

Bailey’s sister, sophomore Brooke Bailey, tied the school record in the butterfly (58.93) to finish fifth and was a member of three school record relays. The Spartans placed sixth in the 200 free relay (1:40.55) and fifth in the 400 free relay (3:39.57) with Bailey joining Jordyn Markovitch, Jessica Hilk and Colleen Manning on both. Boardman was eighth in the 200 IM with Bailey, Hilk and Manning swimming with Gaby DeAscentis.

Warren Harding’s Dylan Thirion placed fourth in the 200 free and sixth in the 100 free and helped the Raiders place sixth in the 200 medley relay.

Emily Thirion was fourth in the 100 fly and the 100 breast, while Howland’s Aimee Gysegem was sixth in the 200 free and fourth in the 500 free.
