Executive meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission will conduct a special executive meeting Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Oakhill Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Suite 100, to discuss staff policies and procedures.

RETIREMENTS

Air Force

Air Force Chief Master Sgt. John E. Payne, a Campbell native, has retired after serving 33 years. He was a command chief assigned to the 911th Airlift Wing of Pittsburgh.

Payne is the son of Sylvia Payne of Campbell, and a 1979 graduate of Campbell High School.

Inactivation ceremony

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class William P. Hanahan, a 2005 graduate of Sharpsville Area High School, Sharpsville, Pa.; Marine Corps Cpl. Joseph E. Miller, son of Laura and Kenneth Miller of Hermitage, Pa., and a 2009 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, Pa.; and Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Barton D. McCoy, son of Jessica L. and James W. McCoy of Hermitage, Pa., and a 2009 graduate of Sharon High School, Sharon, Pa., were among nearly 12,000 past and current crew members, family and friends who attended the inactivation of aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65).

The USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, recently completed its 25th and final deployment and returned to its home port of Naval Station Norfolk, Va., for inactivation and decommissioning.

A veteran of 25 deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, Pacific Ocean, and the Middle East, USS Enterprise served in nearly every major conflict that took place during her history. Its home ports were Alameda, Calif., and Norfolk.

Navy: Seaman Apprentice Nathaniel A. Stuckey (Ironwood High School, Glendale, Ariz., ’12), son of Tracy L. Stuckey of Beloit, and Jeffery A. Stuckey of Phoenix; Seaman Apprentice Bianca D. Isom (James River High School, Midlothian, Va., ’10), daughter of Monica Whiting of Warren, and Damon K. Isom, of North Chesterfield, Va.; Seaman Tylan S. Ford (Chaney High School, ’05).
