Digital Learning Day, a national campaign to celebrate teachers and bring attention to how technology is being successfully used in the classroom, took place Feb. 6.

St. Joseph Immaculate Heart of Mary School took this opportunity to acknowledge Pam Jadue, the school’s Computer and art teacher. Having been the art teacher for the past three years, Jadue added teaching computer classes since the 2012-2013 school year. She has a master’s degree in Education and is well-versed in the technical skills necessary to prepare students for high school, college and beyond.

“The movement in education is to infuse technology into the daily curriculum,” said Jadue. “At St. Joseph Immaculate Heart of Mary School, all students learn technical skills that allow them to use the computer for research and instruction, as well as creating Word documents, presentations and digital art. Middle school students are also learning basic computer programming skills.”

SJIHM also participated in Ohio’s attempt at a world record of the most students learning online in a day.

Every class used technology online and completed a survey to receive a World’s Record certificate. Instructional aspects of the day included interactive maps, logging daily seismic activity, researching specific health questions, online game-based learning, blending online and traditional class work and 100 percent online class in first grade.

The official Digital Learning Day gave SJIHM teachers and students an opportunity to recognize just how much technology is used in the classroom and their everyday lives.
