Longtime Ohio newspaper managing editor dies
ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — The Chronicle-Telegram newspaper here says longtime managing editor Arnold Miller has died. He was 81.
The newspaper reports Miller died Thursday. His youngest daughter says he had suffered two strokes within the past several weeks.
Miller, of Westlake, was managing editor at The Chronicle-Telegram for 25 years, from 1972 until he retired in 1997. He helped to increase circulation and was known around the newsroom as a tough, gruff, no-nonsense journalist, often found smoking a cigar or teaching younger reporters their craft.
His 42-year career included earlier jobs at the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cleveland Press and newspapers in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Hagerstown, Md.
Miller leaves his four children and three grandchildren.
