Canfield swimmers advance to districts

The Canfield High School boys and girls swim team competed at the University of Akron Feb. 7-9 against 15 other Division I schools during the sectional swim meet.

Eight members of the girls team qualified for districts. They include Olivia Williamson in the 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, medley relay and 400 free relay; Mallory Allen in the 100 fly, 500 free, medley relay and 400 free relay; Briana O’Malley in the 400 free relay; Ally Chiu in diving; Jamie Wellham in the 100 fly; Sarah Heaven in the 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley, medley relay and 400 free relay; Maggie Beistel in the 100 back; and Theresa Mikolay in the 100 breast and medley relay.

The 200-yard medley relay team took fourth place and set a school record with the time of 1:53.58. The team consists of Heaven, Mikolay, Allen and Williamson. Mikolay placed third in the 100-yard backstroke and set a new school record of 1:09.43.

Boys qualifying for districts were Nicky Montalto in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay; Mike Cardone in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay; Drew Bennett in the 500 free, 200 free and medley relay; Daniel Bogen in the 200 free, 100 free, 200 free relay and 400 free relay; Adam Weiss in the medley relay, 100 fly and 100 back; Michael DiDomenico in the 200 medley relay, 500 free and 100 breast; Kyle Anderson in the 200 individual medley, 500 free and medley relay; Connor Brady in the 100 fly, 100 back, 200 free relay and 400 free relay; Jared Rothbauer in the 200 individual medley and Alec Gaetano in the 100 fly and 100 back.

The 200-yard free relay team placed first and set a sectional record of 1:28.25. The team consists of Brady, Cardone, Montalto and Bogen.
