Boardman HOF names being accepted

Nominations for induction into the 2013 class of the Boardman High School Athletic Hall of Fame are being accepted.

Names for the HOF, sponsored by the Boardman Booster Club, may be submitted to the school’s athletic office at 7777 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, OH 44512. Inductees must have graduated from BHS at least 15 years ago or have made a lasting impact on the athletic program as a coach, booster or contributor — include details of accomplishments.

BGMS girls top Center

Boardman Glenwood Middle School’s eighth-grade girls basketball team ended the season with a 36-15 victory over Boardman Center Middle School. Simone Comer led the way with 15 points, Aniyuh Spann had six and Lauren Pavlansky and Taylor Halowell had five points each. Comer, Halowell and Spann each added seven rebounds. Alexis Stutz and Faith Clear brought down three. Comer and Pavlansky led with four steals and Maryssa Wagner had three. Glenwood’s eighth-grade girls ended the season with a 10-3 record.

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School’s seventh-grade girls fell to Center Middle School 36-15. Top performers for BGMS were Cassie Stitt and Aniya White with four points each. The seventh grade team ended the season with a 2-12 record.

BGMS downs Center

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School’s eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated Center 38-23. The win improved Boardman Glenwood’s record to 9-5 on the season. BGMS was led in scoring by JR Ryan, who scored 21 points. Also scoring for the Spartans were Sean Birchfield with eight points. The entire team played great defense and smart basketball.

The BGMS seventh-grade boys basketball team came up just short in an amazing game as they lost 31-30. Noah Falleti and Jarod Wilson led the way with nine points each. The boys finished the regular season with 10-4 record.

BGMS sweeps YCS

The seventh-grade boys put together a total team effort as they beat Youngstown Christian last night 45-24. Holden Lipke led the way with 10 points, while Brian Terlesky scored eight and Noah Falleti added six. John Dudik also added some great defense for the Spartans. The boys improved to 10-3 on the season.

The BGMS eighth-grade boys basketball team beat Youngstown Christian 44-15. Bryce Richey led a balanced scoring attack with nine, Gaven Strines, Mark Smaldino and Sean Birchfield each had seven. The team improved their record to 8-5.

BGMS girls win

Boardman Glenwood’s eighth-grade girls picked up their ninth victory on the year against three losses beating Youngstown Christian 37-19. Sione Comer led all scorers with 10 points. Aniyuh Spann and Lauren Pavlansky had nine points each and Taylor Halowell had seven points. A strong defensive and rebounding effort led the Spartans.

Spann and Halowell had eight rebounds each, and Faith Clear and Kristen Bean had two rebounds each. Comer led with six steals, Maryssa Wagner had three and Charlotte Voytko had two.

The BGMS seventh grade girls lost a tough hard fought game to Youngstown Christian 23-19. Leading scorers were Savannah Beule and Aniya White with four points each.

Softball sign-ups set for Austintown league

Austintown girls softball league (slow-pitch) sign-ups, which are open to all Mahoning Valley girls, will be at the Austintown Township hall today and tomorrow from noon until 4 p.m.
