Valley native returns for film premiere

“The Power of Few,” the big-screen debut from Boardman native Leone Marucci, opens Friday at Tinseltown and at a theater in Columbus.

Marucci — who wrote, directed and produced the film — is back in his hometown this week for the premiere. He has lived in Los Angeles since 1996.

The sci-fi action-drama stars Christopher Walken, Christian Slater, Moon Bloodgood, Q’orianka Kilcher and Anthony Anderson.

Marucci will be at Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University at noon Friday to discuss the making of the film. His one-hour talk in the James Gallery is free and open to the public.

Show times for “The Power of Few” are 12:30, 2:50, 5:20, 7:50 and 10:10 p.m. There also will be special Valentine’s Day showings tonight at 10:10 p.m. and 12:10 a.m. (just after midnight).

As a bonus, moviegoers who bring their “Power of Few” ticket to 16 local businesses can receive special discounts. Dubbed “the Ticket of Power,” the promotion is good for 24 hours after the ticket purchase. It applies to all tickets purchased in the next seven days.

FIRST SHOW AT the NEW CEDARS

The first scheduled rock show at the new Cedars location at 702 Steel St. on the West Side will be Feb. 22, with November Loop, Nervous Jerks and the Triggers. The show also will serve as the after-party for Mad About the Arts, the annual gala fundraiser at the McDonough Museum of Art.

Cedars closed its downtown location, where it had been for 38 years, at the end of January.

VALENTINE’S DAY at the lemon

Couples will be the theme of a Valentine’s Day show at 7:30 tonight at the Lemon Grove Cafe, 110 W. Federal St., downtown. Love songs will be played by Khaled Tabbara and Katianne Timko, Courtney Waskin and Shiloh Hawkins, and Kira and Jeff Andrea of the Strange Familiar.

Admission is $5.
