Suspect in West Princeton killing found in Akron

The man suspected of killing his uncle was found hiding in Akron, according to Youngstown police and the Northern Ohio U.S. Marshals Task Force.
Youngstown police, along with several members of the Northern Ohio U.S. Marshal’s Task Force, arrested Emmett Perkins IV, 25, of West Princeton Avenue, on Wednesday afternoon. Perkins was taken into custody in Akron without incident.
Perkins was wanted in the Tuesday morning shooting death of 28-year-old Frank Whitted. The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, in a report Wednesday, determined that Whitted died of a single gunshot wound to the chest after being shot at a home on West Princeton on the South Side.
Perkins is Whitted’s nephew.
Whitted’s 2-year-old son and another woman were in the house at the time of the shooting, but not injured.
Police removed the child from the house as para-medics worked on his father. He was placed in the care of an aunt.
Police believe the shooting culminated an argument between Perkins and Whitted, but they are not speculating on what the argument was about.
Perkins likely will be arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Whitted is the city’s second homicide victim this year. His death comes on the heels of another homicide earlier this month on the city’s East Side.
David Stokes, 53, of Columbiana County was shot and killed Feb. 1 and another man wounded on a dead-end street in a housing development.
A Mahoning County grand jury last week indicted Larry Blue, 32, of Parmelee Avenue, and Khadijah Nicole Payden-Briggs, 19, of Maplewood Court on charges in that shooting.
Blue faces one count of aggravated murder and two counts of felonious assault. Payden-Briggs is charged with complicity to aggravated robbery.
There were three homicides in the city by this time last year.
