A youth football organization said its moving forward with the 2013 season after a former member was charged with stealing funds last month.

“We’re getting back to basics to make sure these types of things don’t happen again,” said Rob Musch, vice president of the Struthers Little Wildcats organization.

Musch said the organization has installed new board members in preparation for the upcoming season.

In January, former organization president Lisa Farkas, 42, of Canterbury Lanes in Boardman, was arraigned on six counts of theft. Police said Farkas is accused of stealing $2,500 in checks from the football program.

Musch said new procedures have been implemented to ensure funds are not improperly managed. He said all checks will be signed off by at least two board members, while all cash from concessions and fees will be counted by multiple people.

“There’s not going to be just one person handling the money,” he said.

The Struthers Little Wildcats will have a 2013 sign-up on March 2 and 3 at Nebo Field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be another sign-up March 23 and 24 at the same location during the same hours.

“We’re back on track with our main goal being to make sure these kids are having fun,” said Musch.
