Suspect arrested in Youngstown's second homicide


AKRON — Youngstown police and members of the Northern Ohio U.S. Marshal’s Task Force have arrested the suspect in Youngstown’s latest homicide.

Arrested this afternoon in Akron without incident was Emmett Perkins IV, 25, of West Princeton Avenue, who is charged with the murder of his uncle, Frank Whitted, early Tuesday.

Police found Whitted, 28, fatally shot in his chest on the first floor of a residence at 422 W. Princeton Ave., after receiving a 911 call from the shooting scene at 1:34 a.m.

Whitted was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he died at 1:45 a.m. The coroner has ruled his death a homicide.
