Pa. postal service contract driver charged with stealing mail

PITTSBURGH — A federal grand jury has indicted a Washington, Pa., man on a theft-of-mail charge

The one-count indictment, returned Tuesday, named John Marianov, 57, of Cove Road,

as the sole defendant, said U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton.

According to the indictment, Marianov was employed as a highway route contract driver for the U.S. Postal Service. From May through December 2012, while Marianov was working as a contract driver, he stole greeting cards and letters containing cash, checks, money orders, gift cards and opera tickets from mail that was routed through the Washington, Pa., post office. The total value of the stolen items was more than $4,000.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
