Free gardening program open to Youngstown residents


YOUNGSTOWN — All city residents are eligible to participate in the Market Gardener Training Program at Iron Roots Urban Farm, Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp.’s working farm and training center, 820 Canfield Road.

Liberty Merrill, senior program coordinator, and Curtis Moore, Iron Roots Farm manager, will present the classes, and there will be guest speakers.

Students who complete the course and are serious about starting an urban enterprise will receive one-on-one technical assistance and class opportunities on an ongoing basis after program graduation. There is no charge for the course.

New participants will be supplied with books. Some carpooling may be required for field trips. Space may be limited.

The application can be downloaded at www.yndc.org. Paper copies of the application are available at the YNDC office. This form should be mailed (received, not postmarked) or hand-delivered to the office at 201 E. Commerce St., Suite 140, Youngstown 44503, by 5 p.m. March 8.
