Beatitude House received a $3,300 grant from the Diocese of Ohio Episcopal Community Services to support the Child Advocacy Program in Youngstown. A House of Blessing provides homeless women and children a place to live while they work to gain stability and achieve permanent housing. The women focus on furthering their education, gaining employment and overcoming obstacles through counseling and supportive services. The Child Advocacy program focuses on the needs of the children in residence.

Charged in death

ASHTABULA

A Youngstown man is one of six suspects charged with the 1997 shooting death of a man in Ashtabula.

Ashtabula County sheriff’s detectives, U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, with assistance of the Ashtabula City Police Department, said the six men are involved in the death of Ronald “Maceo” Hull, who died of multiple gunshot wounds in Ashtabula on Feb. 9, 1997.

One of the suspects is Jawaan M. Evans, who last listed a Youngstown address. He remains at large. Four of the suspects are under arrest, and the fifth is in prison for an unrelated crime.

Anyone with information on Evans’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department at 440-576-0055, or the marshals service tip line at 866-4 Wanted. A cash reward is available.

Woman arraigned

BOARDMAN

A 52-year-old Boardman woman accused of stealing another woman’s wallet at a local church was arraigned Tuesday.

Lauren Hanlon is charged with identity theft, receiving stolen property and forgery, all felonies. Police say they believe Hanlon took the wallet Dec. 20 during an event at Evangel Baptist Church. The wallet contained a church credit card and the victim’s personal credit card, which had unauthorized charges from Walmart, a gas station and McDonald’s.

Police arrested Hanlon on Monday at her Alburn Drive residence, where she was hiding under a blanket in her bedroom.

Tax abatement

Youngstown

The city school board passed a resolution Tuesday supporting a 12-year, 100 percent tax abatement to The Gatta Company LLC for the remodeling of the Federal Building. The building at 100 W. Federal St. houses V2 Wine Bar Trattoria, apartments and a few small businesses.

Also, two board members gave member Lock P. Beachum Sr. a certificate from the Mahoning County Educational Service Center, recognizing his 15 years on the school board.
