Boston College wins Beanpot

BOSTON

Johnny Gaudreau scored twice and Parker Milner stopped 20 shots to lead No. 4 Boston College to a 6-3 victory over Northeastern on Monday night and give the Eagles their fourth consecutive Beanpot title.

Already the defending national champions — BC has won three of the last five NCAA titles — this class of seniors is the first in school history to go unbeaten in the annual tournament for college hockey bragging rights in Boston.

Harvard beat Boston University 7-4 in the consolation game earlier Monday.

Kevin Roy, who had a hat trick in Northeastern’s first-round victory over BU, had a pair of goals for the Huskies.

Matt O’Connor, a goaltender for two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms, plays for Boston University.

Snowed-out game gets new date

BOSTON

The snowed-out game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins has been rescheduled for April 25.

The game was originally to be played on Saturday. It was first pushed back from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then postponed because of the blizzard that dumped as much as three feet of snow on parts of New England.

The new date means the Lightning will play at home against Toronto on Wednesday night, fly to Boston for a game on Thursday night and return to Tampa Bay for the regular-season finale on Saturday.

Vonn recovers

FORT COLLINS, Colo.

The doctor who operated on Lindsey Vonn’s injured right knee thinks the four-time overall World Cup champion just might return to the circuit as soon as November.

That’s the goal, anyway, with Vonn being back in top form by the Sochi Games, where she will try to defend her Olympic downhill title.

Dr. Bill Sterett, a surgeon for the U.S. Ski Team, examined Vonn on Monday and was optimistic about what he saw: Less swelling around the knee and an increased range of motion a day after a procedure to repair two torn ligaments.

Vonn was hurt during a crash last week at the world championships in Schladming, Austria. Angels’ Madson suffers setback

TEMPE, Ariz

Angels manager Mike Scioscia was not surprised closer Ryan Madson had elbow soreness in his rehabilitation from reconstructive surgery.

Madson, the team’s free-agent acquisition, who hasn’t pitched since 2011 said that he suffered a setback while throwing on Feb. 1.

Scioscia called the pain flare-up a part of the “normal rehab process” and that he expects Madson to be pitching “at some point in April.”

Yankees’ Jeter resumes running

TAMPA, Fla.

Derek Jeter ran Monday for the first time since breaking his left ankle in October, another step toward being in the New York Yankees’ lineup on opening day.

The 38-year-old shortstop jogged on a treadmill at the Yankees’ minor league complex a day before pitchers and catcher report to spring training.

“I’ve gotten the OK to do everything,” Jeter said. “It’s a progression. I haven’t used my legs, so I’ve got to get back to using them.”

When asked how the running workout felt, Jeter replied “great.”

Jeter began his third week of baseball workouts. He hit in a batting cage, fielded grounders on the grass in front of the infield dirt at shortstop and threw in the outfield.
