Military Association installs new officers
New officers recently sworn in to the Mahoning and Shenango Valley Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America are, from left in front, Lt. Col. VIENNA
During a recent meeting of the Mahoning and Shenango Valley Chapter (MSVC) of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) at the Consolidated Activity Center at Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station, newly elected officers were sworn into office by Col. Brian Anderson, USAF retired, from MOAA national headquarters in Alexandria, Va. Col. Anderson is the Deputy Director of the Council and Chapter Affairs Office and was the guest speaker during the banquet ceremony.
Assuming the chapter’s presidency is Major Peter Mihai of Youngstown, U.S. Army retired. Other officers installed were Lt. Col. Rod Hosler of Boardman, U.S. Army retired, first vice president; Lt. Col. Gary Williams of Lisbon, U.S. Army retired, second vice president; and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Don Oglesby of Hubbard, U.S. Coast Guard retired, secretary/treasurer.
Mihai served with the 108th Artillery Division in Vietnam and is a former president of the Canton MOAA Chapter. Lt. Col. Donald Rasile, past second vice president, was presented with the MOAA Ambassador Award to recognize his service to the community, the military and his recruiting success for the chapter.
Board members installed include Col. Walter Duzzny of Austintown, past president; Col. John Koshan of Brookfield; Lt. Col. Michael Wisniewski of Howland; former Capt. Dennis Gartland of Cortland; and Mrs. Janet Oglesby of Hubbard.
National membership has increased to more than 380,000 officers from all branches of the service, both active and retired, with the primary mission to protect the benefits earned for serving our country.
MVSC is accepting new members from Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania.
MOAA is a nonprofit veteran’s association dedicated to maintaining a strong national defense and to preserving earned entitlements of uniformed services and their families and survivors. Membership chairman Williams may be reached at 330-385-4873.
