Literary award

The American Journal of Nursing announced that Jeanne Bryner of Newton Falls has been awarded a 2012 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award for her book of poems titled “Smoke.”

“Smoke” received second place in the public interest/ creative writing category.

The book details her life and work as an emergency-room nurse in the Warren area. Bryner has received numerous awards, including fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council and the Tillie Olsen 2011 Creative Writing Award from the Working Class Studies Association.

Her previous books are “Breathless,” “Blind Horse: Poems,” “Eclipse: Stories,” “Tenderly Lift Me: Nurses Honored,” “Celebrated and Remembered,” “The Wedding of Miss Meredith Mouse” and “No Matter How Many Windows,” the story of women in her family.

The author will be doing a series of book signings and readings throughout the state. The book is 96 pages long and is available from the publisher at www.smithdocs.net, and at area and online bookstores. Bryner may be reached at jeabryner@gmail.com.
