Toddlers and their parents came to the Poland library Jan. 17 to learn and play together as part of the Baby Brilliant program.

Librarian Vikki Peck began the story time by singing and dancing to “Shake My Sillies Out” from The Best of Raffi. She then led the children in the traditional Baby Brilliant opening song, “The More We Get Together.”

Next, Peck sang “Where Is Thumbkin?” a song that encourages recognition of the different parts of the body. To add some silliness to the event, Peck read a book titled “Bark, George” by Jules Feiffer. In this story, George is a puppy that makes noises that other animals would make when he tries to bark. After some time, George spits out a cat, a duck, a pig, and a cow, all of which prevented him from barking.

Peck followed this story with a song based off the book, “The Cat Inside of George,” which was sung to the tune of Bingo.

Peck read “The Babies on the Bus” by Karen Katz and “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” by Richard Egielski and sang “Five Little Moneys” (counting skills), “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” (body recognition), and “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” Peck ended the program with making puppy puppets out of brown paper bags and colored paper.

Baby Brilliant events are offered for many different age groups, including children 2-23 months and 4-5 year olds, and happen several times throughout the month. For a complete schedule, visit www.libraryvisit.org.
