Wyo. sheep known for butting vehicles at park dies

LANDER, Wyo.

A bighorn sheep named Bam Bam because of his habit of butting vehicles at a Wyoming park has died with his horns, likely of natural causes.

He was the last survivor of the bighorn sheep herd in Sinks Canyon State Park near Lander.

Bam Bam became a local celebrity of sorts when he began showing up near the park’s main road in 2007 and allowed people to pet him. He earned the name Bam Bam because he liked to butt vehicles.

Fearing for the sheep’s and visitors’ safety, park managers moved Bam Bam to an enclosed state facility in 2009.

Sinks Canyon Superintendent Darrel Trembly said Bam Bam will be mounted by a taxidermist and put on display in the park’s visitor center.

Stolen cookie sculpture recovered in Germany

BERLIN

German police have recovered a cookie sculpture that may have been stolen by someone impersonating the Cookie Monster.

Spokeswoman Jacobe Heers said the 44-pound gilded sculpture was found Tuesday morning outside a university. It was hanging from the neck of a horse sculpture with a red ribbon.

The century-old cookie was reported stolen last month from the office of a bakery company in Hannover.

A local newspaper later received a letter demanding cookies be delivered to children at a hospital. The paper also received a picture of someone dressed like Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster holding what appeared to be the stolen cookie.

The Bahlsen company promised a reward of 52,000 packets of cookies for a charitable cause if their emblem turned up.

No suspect has been apprehended.

World’s longest cat dies

RENO, Nev.

Stewie the Cat, the longest domestic cat in the world at more than 4 feet long from nose to tail, has died.

Stewie was surrounded by family when he succumbed to a yearlong battle with cancer Monday evening at his Reno home, owner Robin Hendrickson said Tuesday. He was 8.

Guinness World Records declared Stewie the record-holder in August 2010, measuring 48.5 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.

Hundreds of fans flooded Stewie’s Facebook page with memories and condolences Tuesday. The Maine Coon cat was a certified therapy animal who frequently visited a Reno senior center and helped promote animal-welfare awareness with the Nevada Humane Society.

“Stewie was always very social and loved meeting new people,” Hendrickson said. “He has touched many lives, and for that I am grateful.”
