Giant Eagle to end Foodperks program
pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle supermarket chain is scrapping its food- discount program but is expanding a related gasoline- discount program.
Foodperks offered 1 percent discounts on food for every 10 gallons of gas that customers bought at the chain’s related GetGo convenience stores.
Chain officials say the program proved too complicated for many customers so the chain is expanding its Fuelperks program instead.
Fuelperks gives customers 10 cents off per gallon of gas at GetGo stores for every $50 worth of food customers buy. Under the expanded program, GetGo customers will get 3 cents off per gallon even if they don’t have any Fuelperks discounts accumulated.
The program requires customers to use a computerized Advantage Card.
S&P expects lawsuit
washington
The U.S. government is expected to file civil charges against Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, alleging that it improperly gave high ratings to mortgage debt that later plunged in value and helped fuel the 2008 financial crisis.
The charges would mark the first enforcement action the government has taken against a major rating agency involving the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
S&P said Monday that the Justice Department had informed the rating agency that it intends to file a civil lawsuit focusing on S&P’s ratings of mortgage debt in 2007.
