Man faces sexual battery charges, loses job

YOUNGSTOWN

A man who is jailed without bond on three counts of sexual battery has been fired from his job at the Mahoning County Juvenile Court, Judge Theresa Dellick of that court announced today.

Sherod D. Holmes Jr. 32, of South Meridian Road, made his initial appearance on the charges this afternoon in county court, where he was found indigent and a defense lawyer was to be appointed for him.

Holmes will appear before Judge David D’Apolito for a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Austintown Court.

The offenses allegedly occurred Sept. 1, 2012, and the case was investigated by the county sheriff’s office.

“The court’s primary concern is for the youth and families involved. As is evidenced by our cooperation in this matter, we will take any and all steps necessary to protect the community. The continued trust and support of the public, as well as the welfare of those we serve, demand no less,” Judge Dellick said in a prepared e-mailed statement late this afternoon.
