Youngstown State sophomore Ashley Dow set Beeghly Natatorium records in the 100 and 200 backstroke as the Penguins closed out their home season against Bowling Green on Saturday. Bowling Green won the dual, 163-122.

Dow posted a time of 57.43 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the 200 backstroke, she had a pool-record 2:05.33.

Dow held both records previously set Feb. 3.

Dow also placed second in the 200 IM (2:11.97).

Casey Hill won her final home event in the three-meter dive with a total of 276.15 points.

de Man prevails

Perrysburg, Ohio

Youngstown State newcomer Paula de Man won her collegiate debut, but the YSU women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Bowling Green on Saturday,

de Man dispatched of Bowling Green’s Emily Reuland 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

A native of Holland, she joined the program this week and made an impact on Saturday. However, de Man was the only Penguin to get into the win column against the Falcons (4-1).

At No. 2, Marta Burak dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Nikki Chiricosta.

Lauren Hankle dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Maddy Eccleston and Annina Brendel lost to Mary Hill, 7-6 (6), 6-4.

At the YSU National Invitational track meet, Bucknell won the men’s competition 0.16 over Duquesne outscoring the Dukes 150.16 to 150.

Dayton was third at 130 while YSU placed fourth at 114.33.

For the women, Bucknell dominated scoring 322.50 points. Duquesne was second at 117, Detroit was third with 81 and YSU came in fourth with 70 points.

YSU had winners in both shot put events on Saturday.

Nina Grambling won the 60-meter dash (7.6 seconds) while Ciara Jarrett won the 200-meter dash (24.71).

Jarrett was second in the 60 meters (7.67) while Alexis Washington was fourth at 7.80.

Michael Davis was second in the 60-meter dash (6.92) and placed third in the 200 (22.17).

Curbstone Coaches

Major League Baseball umpire Wally Bell will be the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches meeting. The group will meet at the Blue Wolfe Catering Hall on Monday at noon.

Basketball tickets

CANFIELD

Poland will play at Canfield in a boy’s basketball game on Friday.

Ticket sales from the Canfield High School athletic office will start Monday for players, cheerleaders and their families.

Ticket sales to students and the general public will begin Tuesday. Office hours are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Student tickets cost $4 each, adult tickets cost $6.

Correction

Ashley Moore was one of Lowellville High’s seniors last season who scored 1,000 points in her varsity career. She was incorrectly identified in a story in Saturday’s edition.

Revolutionary takes the Withers Stakes

NEW YORK

Revolutionary, last at the top of the stretch, split rivals in the final strides to beat Escapefromreality by a neck on Saturday in the $200,000 Withers Stakes for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct.

The victory gave Revolutionary 10 qualifying points toward the Kentucky Derby. He became another Triple Crown contender in the Todd Pletcher barn, a deep contingent that includes last year’s juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby, Violence, Verrazano and Overanalyze.
