Police car hit in chase

YOUNGSTOWN

A driver in a stolen sport-utility vehicle led Youngstown police on a chase Friday evening along Jacobs Road, then into Beechwood Estates, causing a crash that injured a Youngstown police officer. The fleeing driver struck and downed a utility pole on Jacobs Road at about 6 p.m., then hit the police car several times before surrendering. The officer was transported by ambulance to the hospital but was later released.The identity of the driver being chased was unavailable Friday night.

Spaghetti benefit

The Lena, Mason, Christian Fund to benefit children will have a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 26 W. Wilson Ave. Cost is $6 for adults, free for kids under 5. The fund holds a free fun day/book bag give-away at Tod Park in Girard each year, giving away about 400 book bags. The fund also bought toys for 30 children for Christmas this year and helped with the purchase of clothes, rent and utilities.
