Ceremony bestows US citizenship on 11

YOUNGSTOWN

Eleven people became U.S. citizens in a naturalization ceremony Thursday before Judge Beth A. Smith of Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court. Their names, hometowns and countries of origin are: Halynna Pavelko Frangos, Poland, Ohio, Ukraine; Aedo Aranguren, Youngstown, Uruguay; Khang Le Sabre Nguyen, Poland, Ohio, Vietnam; Fang Wang, Austintown, People’s Republic of China; Andres Gonzalo Solano, New Castle, Pa., Chile; Hung Van Le, Canfield, Vietnam; Mohamad Ahmad Yassine, Boardman, Lebanon; Ralph Yassine, Austintown, Lebanon; Dawna Lynn Cerney, Mineral Ridge, Canada; Mehrnoush Mary Montazeri, Canfield, Iran; Athanasios Emmanuel Kerpelis, Liberty, Greece.

Boil advisory extended

Lowellville

The precautionary boil water advisory for the village has been extended to 4 p.m. today.

The advisory was issued by Aqua Ohio for Lowellville customers after a contractor struck the water main, which supplies the area. The break has been repaired, but officials are performing tests to confirm the water meets drinking-water standards. All water used for drinking, cooking and oral hygiene should be brought to a full boil for a minimum of one minute. It is not necessary to boil water for other uses.

Power outage Friday

BOARDMAN

Power was restored early Friday evening to customers in Beaver and Boardman townships, a FirstEnergy spokesman said.

About 2,700 Ohio Edison customers were without power Friday afternoon, and the outage was first reported at 2:57 p.m., said spokesman David Turner. He said equipment failure caused the outage.

Vindicator readers also reported traffic light outages on Market Street. Some portions of the Southern Park Mall also were without power for a period Friday afternoon.

Science fair today

YOUNGSTOWN

Horizon Science Academy, 3403 Southern Blvd., hosts a science fair from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today. The fair will include breakfast, judging, lunch, projects on display and an award ceremony.

Man struck with ax

YOUNGSTOWN

A man was struck in the head with an ax at Lou’s Auto Parts and Auto Wrecking, 1715 Waverly St. on the West Side about 6 p.m. Friday.

The man was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening, police said. No report was available later Friday night, and no other information was available, police said.

Accidental shooting

WARREN

A 31-year-old Lexington Avenue Northwest man went to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital at 12:05 a.m. Friday with what he described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg.

The man said he forgot to clear the chamber when cleaning the gun. He had a broken femur bone and tibia bone. He told police the accident happened outside of Warren but couldn’t recall where it occurred. Police tested his hands to determine whether he had fired a weapon.

Niles man assaulted

WARREN

A 35-year-old Niles man suffered severe cuts after three men entered his bedroom in a Warren house and assaulted him and struck him in the back of the head with a pistol. The incident took place in a home in the 400 block of Porter Street Northeast at 12:40 a.m. Friday, he told police. He told police he did not know any of the suspects.
