JAMES ETHRIDGE (left) and AMANDA CARCELLI.
Name: James Ethridge and Amanda Carcelli
Instrument: James - Trumpet;
Amanda - French Horn, Mellophone and Trumpet
Q. When did you start playing your instrument?
A. James: I started playing the trumpet in fifth grade when I joined band.
Amanda: I began playing the tuba in fifth grade, but later learned to play other instruments.
Q. Best memory of being in band/marching band?
A. James: The best memories of band are the Massillon Band Night trips after I moved to Poland in my sophomore year. However, all I will remember all of my years with the Poland Band, as well as the things that happened at Cedar Point ~ long story, short tomato. I also enjoyed competing at District Band Competition with the Symphonic Band. This year, I will be attending competition with the Wind Ensemble.
Amanda: My best memory of marching band was attending my last Massillon Band Night in 2012. I will really miss this event. I also enjoyed going to Disney World in my freshman year. However, the most memorable part of it was marching through Epcot with the whole band. I also participated in District contests my junior year.
Q. Why is music important to you?
A. James: Music is important to me because it expands your mind and allows you to think about things in new ways. Being able to play an instrument is a very useful life skill, and being in the band also builds character and discipline.
Amanda: I believe music is a good way to express your feelings and emotions. Being a part of the band may not always seem like the most fun, but it was my favorite part of all four years of high school, and it opened me up to so many new ideas and experiences.
Q. What college do you hope to attend/intended major?
A. James: I hope to attend Cedarville University and double major in Math and Physics.
Amanda: I hope to attend Youngstown State University and major in Early Childhood Education.
