Slovak society to meet Feb. 17

Region 7 of the National Slovak Society (NSS Life) will hold its annual business meeting Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Poland Christian Church, 6248 Struthers Road, Poland Township. Officers and members of assemblies in Region 7 (No. P09A in Youngstown, No. 8 in Struthers, and No. 731 in Poland) and their youth circles are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

Following the Region Meeting, Assembly 731 will hold its annual organization and planning meeting. Anyone planning to attend should bring ideas, suggestions and plans.

HBA names Duncan Remodeler of the Year

The Home Builders and Remodelers Association of the Valley recognized Duncan’s Bath and Kitchen Center of Poland as its Remodeler of the Year at its annual awards dinner Jan. 11.

The award is presented to the remodeler who demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, quality and workmanship throughout the previous year. Three of the company’s individual projects won awards as well, including “Outstanding Kitchen Remodel $50,000 plus,” “Outstanding Kitchen Remodel $25,000-$49,000,” and “Outstanding Bath Remodel Under $25,000 - $49,000.”

Rotary hosts annual chili open

Poland Rotary will be hosting its 28th annual Chili Open Golf Classic Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. The cost is $25 per person and includes food, 18 holes of golf, beverages, prizes and more.

Wine and beer tasting in Boardman

Team Schein is hosting a wine and beer tasting at Vintage Estates Wine and Beer in Boardman Feb. 24 from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and includes eight tastings. Choose from six wine selections or 12 beers on tap from the Diamond bar, hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment by Ryan Ross. You must be 21 years of age to purchase a ticket and attend the event. AWBA meeting set for Feb. 12

Leah Brooks, executive director of the YWCA in Youngstown, will be a guest speaker for the meeting of the Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Feb. 12. Members will gather at A La Cart in Canfield at 6:30 p.m. for a buffet of lemon chicken, stuffed shells, baked whitefish, sandtrap potatoes, peas and carrots, chef salad, rolls and butter, beverages and desserts for $18.50. Fibromyalgia support group meeting

On Feb. 20, the Mahoning Valley Fibromyalgia Support Group will meet at Bethel Lutheran Church, located at 425 Crestview Drive in Boardman. This meeting will be from 7-8:30 p.m. and members are urged to bring a friend who is interested in an evening of learning, sharing and fun. The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross is proudly serving the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital by taking blood donations to help the community Feb. 13 from 12:30-6:30 p.m. at the Poland library.

Spend President’s Day at the library

All libraries in the PLYMC system will be open on Feb. 18 (President’s Day).

Friends of the Library to meet

The Friends of Poland Library will meet Feb. 5, in the library’s meeting room and install a new slate of officers: Kitty Heineman (president), Lee Wright (vice president), Bertha Eszenyi (secretary), and Glenda Hoagland (treasurer). The meeting begins with refreshments at 9:30 a.m. and is open to the public. There will be a presentation on a summer trip to Cuba, information on the April spring luncheon and more.

In the event of inclement weather, the Friends follow the schedule of Poland Schools. When Poland Schools are closed, the meeting is canceled. Hostesses for the meeting are Emma Eggleston, Rekha Desai, Carol McCoy and Sue Perry.

Making Kids Count benefit dinner

On March 15, Making Kids Count will host its first benefit dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Proceeds from the event will go to the various programs Making Kids Count sponsors. This event will include dinner, dessert, a cash bar, chance auction and entertainment. Invitations will be mailed in February. Father-daughter princess dance at Boardman Park

Boardman Park will host its 10th annual Father-Daughter princess dance at the Lariccia Family Community Center. The dance will be on three nights this year: Feb. 15 and 16 from 6-9 p.m., and Feb. 17 from 5-8 p.m. This semi-formal dance will include dinner, dancing to DJ music and more. A professional photo for a keepsake of this event will also be included. Tickets are now on sale. They can be purchased at the park office, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Free pancakes on Feb. 5
