Austintown library was the location of an ancient explosion of movement as librarian Hayley McEwing hosted a dinosaur-themed Gotta Move event Jan. 24.

McEwing used a picture schedule to keep track of what activity was next at the event and explained that the first movement they would be doing was a circle time song in which the children would be participating.

“This song is called the Dinosaur Stomp,” said McEwing. “Just listen to the music to find out what you are supposed to do. You’ll start out walking and then the singer will tell you to eat and you will pretend you are eating like a dinosaur. Listen for the drums to get you walking again.”

After the dance, McEwing passed out two letters to two of the parents at the event. The letters were M and D, and McEwing said they stood for march and dinosaur. Every time one of the parents held up their letter, the children had to either march or walk like a dinosaur.

McEwing also gave the children shakers and had them dance with them to get some of their energy out before having them move on to the last activity for the event, a drawing story. McEwing used different shapes to draw a dinosaur for all the children to see.
